Accessories

IBJJF-approved jiu jitsu belts and finger tape. What you need besides the kimono.

Belts

9 rows of reinforced stitching on the bar, which is the area that frays first on a cheap belt. 100% braided cotton and reinforced seams at the ends. Available in white, blue, purple, brown and black.

IBJJF and AJP approved: they meet the width, length and structure requirements set by the rules for competition.

Which belt size

Sizes A0 to A3, the same numbering as adult kimonos. The norm is to take the same size as your kimono: the belt wraps twice around the waist and leaves enough length for the knot.

Rank order

For adults, the order is white, blue, purple, brown and black. Degrees within each color are marked with stripes on the belt bar. Since your no gi rashguard also has to match your belt color, when you get promoted check out the ranked rashguards too.

Finger tape

Each box includes 3 rolls of 10 meters, 0.8 cm wide. That width lets you tape finger by finger without losing feel or mobility in your grip; wider tapes force you to cut them and end up being wasted.

It comes in an aluminum box with a laser-engraved logo, designed to travel in your bag without getting crushed.

Why tape your fingers

In gi jiu jitsu, your fingers hold collar and sleeve grips throughout the whole roll. Finger injuries are among the most common and among the slowest to heal because you can't stop using them. Tape spreads the load across fingers and limits the range in which the joints are forced.

The practical approach is to tape above and below the joint that bothers you, leaving it free so the finger can bend.

Washing your belt

Same as the kimono: cold water, 30 °C max, with mild detergent. No bleach, no tumble dryer and no iron. Air dry, out of direct sunlight.
